Ideas....

Hello, dear readers. I know, it's been a while since I last posted, and you have my apologies. The past couple of weeks have been a bit of a roller-coaster, I suppose. Though I'm not going into details, certain events in my life have lead to realizations...which have lead to ideas.

I'm thinking about moving out of my parents' house. I know, you're thinking, "But Shelly, you don't have the means to move out on your own!" Yes, I know this. My idea is to move in with my sister and her daughter in Omaha.

Now, none of this is set in stone, in fact, I haven't even discussed it with my sister yet, but it's an idea. I'd likely be able to take my sweet little Pepsi with me, and maybe it would work for me to take care of Lexi (and get paid for it) when Laura's at work. We'll see. It's an idea.

I'm told that I'm an "old soul" and I think finding others like me would be slightly easier in a big town, even if it is still Nebraska. I hope that as I grow and make a life for myself, I'll be able to end up in another state, like California.

Well, there it is, finally a new post! It's not the best, but I just need to get back into the groove!

More on Vacations...

I wrote a couple of posts back about wanting to travel and how an Orlando vacation would be great for a family. Well there's this website that sells discounted Disney World Tickets. They also have other discounted tickets for Orlando attractions. Who doesn't want a bargain, huh? Money is always the biggest factor in keeping people from seeing the world. Right now I'm saving up for a California trip in the summer. I have free lodging for a week, but I still need hundreds of dollars just for plane tickets! This post will get me five dollars closer!

Music

If you haven't yet heard Chris Daughtry's first album, you really, really should. This former American Idol finalist has an AMAZING voice, wrote and co-wrote all the music on the CD, and he simply rocks. The lyrics are deep and heartfelt. It makes me so glad my favorite Idol contestant didn't win, because otherwise he'd be owned by the company, a solo artist without a band, and he probably wouldn't have been able to write his own stuff.

Anyway, check out Daughtry, it's awesome!

Vacation in my mind...

It’s a dream of mine to travel the country, and the world. I haven’t yet been out of the United States, but I’d love to see Australia, Italy, Spain, Egypt…and still, there are so many places in my own country that I’ve never been to! Did you know I’ve only been to the ocean once? It was in the winter, so I didn’t even get to swim! I’d love to go to a resort area with easily accessible sandy beaches and beautiful blue waters…

Did you know there are 52 theme parks in Orlando, Florida? Not to mention all that beach access! I’ve never been to Florida, but it seems like a nice place for a family vacation. I’ve never even been to a theme park. I think one of those Disney World packages would be cool for a family trip. Maybe when/if I’m married and have kids…could be fun!

Whether Weather

The weather is teasing me. One day it'll be warm enough to start melting the snow, and I can take my dog for a walk with just a jacket...

The next day it will be freezing again, sometimes threatening more snow. I don't know about you, but I'm getting so sick of winter!

Hm...

I don't believe horoscopes dictate the lives of people...but there's a part of this quiz result that I like...that's all I'm gonna say.

I'm actually a Tiger, by the way.

Subscribe

There's a magazine for just about everything these days, isn't there? I've seen weight loss magazines, hair style magazines, star trek magazines, and we all know there are far too many celebrity and tabloid mags. I haven't had any magazine subscriptions for a few years. These days I'd be most interested in weight loss, cooking, and home style magazines, but the last subscription I had was to Entertainment Weekly.

I let that subscription run out. Why? Those people are so....antagonistic. They have something judging to say about everything, they act like their word is the only, the first, the last. I was sick of reading insults about my favorite books, music, and movies. I was sick of them trying to tell me what's good and what's not, what's in and what's out. I can decide for myself, and I like to think I have pretty good taste, thank you very much!

Anyway, I still love how there's such a variety of magazines out there. I prefer to stay away from the Entertainment Weekly's and the teeny bopper Cosmo Girl's. There are still some with good info on your subject of interest, WITHOUT too much antagonism. We can really do without that junk.

Um..No?

I actually weigh about 135...

You Should Weigh 150

If you weigh less than this, you either have a fast metabolism or are about to gain weight.

If you weigh more than this, you may be losing a few pounds soon!

McJob

I've been offered a job at 451Press to blog about my pets. Can it get much better than that? No, I don't think so!

My pay will be 40% of the ad revenue on my blog, so I suppose we'll see what will come of that. I have to blog five days a week, which won't be difficult. If you know me, you'll know that I ALWAYS have something to say about my sweet little critters!

So, as soon as everything comes together, I'll put up a link to my pets blog for you all to enjoy.

Who Wants to Work for a Livin'?

I am a photographer. I like to call myself a professional photographer, but the truth is, photography couldn't be my profession. I make about $400 on my photography last year. That's it. Can't exactly live off that. I've tried my hand at portraits, created and sent out brochures, I've gotten myself a photography MySpace, I update my photoblogs almost daily...but still, it's not working.

I've thought about having my own website. I mean one that I own and maintain, not just my own page on a domain. But one thing held me back, and that was the ordering process. How do I work shopping cart software? You need to make sure your shopping cart can guarantee security. Software with a free trial ain't a bad idea either.

I still don't know about having my own online photography store, but I guess it's still a possibility.

Installment Three

THE THRESHOLD
Installment Three

The man looked a little surprised that the boy was speaking to him. There was a pause and then he answered. “Uh, that book any good?”

This loosened Alex up a bit. Finally someone was asking him about something that he loved, rather than questions about homework, grades, or this week’s popular rock band. “Yeah, it’s great! It’s my favorite book,” he replied.

“Really?” said the man, now with a bit of a smile. “Will you tell me about it?”

“Sure!” And Alex went on to enthusiastically summarize the plot of the Threshold. How a man went on a journey after dropping out of college, hoping to discover a bit of the world, and maybe a bit of himself. He told how the character stumbled upon a doorway to another world, one where anyone’s dreams can come true without consequence, and how, in being in that world, the character learned that life just isn’t right without mistakes, without having to work for the things you want, and though the world gave him whatever he wished, it still didn’t feel genuine. He got no real pride out of the life he had because none of it was earned. He explained how the character decided to leave that other world and try to make the same life for himself, except actually take the journey to get there. It was the kind of tale that Alex wanted to live.

When he was finished there was silence between the two strangers. The man looked at Alex in astonishment and a glimmer of a tear in his eye. “…you get it,” he choked out.

Alex did not understand, and the man‘s apparent emotions made him suddenly very uncomfortable. He simply asked “I get what?”

“Will you come with me?” the man asked. “There’s something I’d like to tell you.”

“Uh, I don’t know you buddy, and in this day and age, I dunno if it’s too wise for me to do that,” answered Alex, now trying to discreetly but quickly gather up his things and leave the man behind.

The stranger chuckled quietly. “Ok, you’re probably right. You’re a smart kid. Tell ya what. I own this place, so why don’t you come by tomorrow, only if you want to, and you can have a hot chocolate on the house. I’ll talk to you here.”

“I don’t know,” Alex said slowly as he stood up from the booth. “Maybe, but I gotta go now,” and he was out the door, his payment for the drink on the table.

The next day at school Alex couldn’t get his encounter with that strange guy out of his head. Most of him was sure the man was a crazy drunk, probably a pedophile that escaped from the pen. But just a small bit of him wanted to go to that diner after school, just to see what was up. It’s a public place he thought the guy can’t do anything to me there.

Throughout the day, that little bit of Alex that contemplated another visit to the diner grew larger and eventually overcame his doubtful side. Alex decided he would see what this was all about. In fact, a sense of excitement grew in the boy, one of an awaited adventure. His logical side told him that the man would probably have nothing life-changing to tell him, but his heart he hoped for something beyond the mundane, something to take him out of the small town existence that represented his entire life so far.

Alex was the first student out the doors of Lexington’s single high school, he hadn’t even stopped at his locker to drop of his books, he simply shoved them in to his already over-stuffed back pack and told him self that the extra weight wouldn’t slow down his walk to the downtown diner. Not even the flurry filled wind in his face deterred Alex from reaching the diner, because something inside told him that he didn’t want to miss this meeting.

Finally, the boy reached the diner, opened the door with a jingle of the attached bell, and took a moment to catch his breath. He looked around and caught the eye of the stranger sitting in a booth in the back; the one Alex sat at the day before. The man motioned Alex over and the boy heeded the gesture. Now that he was here, nervousness was starting to creep into Alex’s consciousness. He wondered if this was a big mistake, or even some kind of joke playing on his insecurities, but he knew there was really no backing out now.

“I’m glad you came, Alex,” said the man as Alex slowly took a seat across the table. “My name is Joseph Griffin, but you may know me better by my pen name, Steven M. Butler.”

Connecting

Ah, the Internet. What a wonder, right? So many things can be accomplished so much easier through the Internet. I have wonderful friends that I would never have met if it weren't for the World Wide Web. I can shop for things from home that aren't even found in my state because of the 'net. Heck, I can date from my computer if I want to!

There are so many personal things we can do conveniently from how thanks to the net, but it's also an invaluable tool for the working world. Ever heard of headhunters? Dictionary.com defines a headhunter as, "a personnel recruiter for a corporation or executive recruitment agency." Being as young as I am, it's hard for me to picture how on earth a recruiter would find the right employees without the Internet. They'd have a limited area to work within, right? Well, with the web, recruiters have world-wide access to hundreds of qualified potential employees. That makes it easier to find the best of the best without expending a lot of resources.

How cool.

All Growed Up

My sweet little Pepsi is four years old today. Happy Birthday, Baby!

My Parents Might Disagree....

You Are 20% Spoiled

You are definitely not spoiled. You've worked hard for what you have.

Down to earth and grounded, you don't need a lot to make you happy.

Workin' for the Man?

"Work from Home!"

"Make thousands of dollars a month doing nothing!"

" Get paid to fill out surveys!"

Do these offers sound familiar? They certainly do to me. I love my computer, I love the Internet, and I love being at home. In my endeavors to find a legitimate work from home opportunity, I've come across these promises countless times. So, how do you know if any of these opportunities are legitimate? The general rule would be, if you have to pay to work, then it's probably a scam.

Oh, how I wish I could make $1200 a month stuffing envelopes, but it just isn't realistic. The key is research and patience. It's been about a year since I started seriously looking for easy and legitimate work from home employment, and just this month I finally found it. Did you know this very blog is going to make me five dollars? All I have to do is mention and link to a particular advertiser and I get paid.

Of course, this type of money making isn't for everyone. In order to make my money I have to write several blogs a day. You see, if I want to make just $300 a month, I have to produce two ad blogs a day as well as two regular blogs in each post. But I love to blog, and I'm willing to dedicate my time to this particular field.

There are other opportunities out there though. For instance, there's a place called Ebates that will give you cash back on the purchases you make on their site. If I were to buy an apple product, I get it at a good price, and I get a cash rebate for my purchase. If you like to shop, this might be for you.

Just remember, always be cautious when searching for online work, check out the businesses at the Better Business Bureau, do Google searches on the subject, look for reviews of the company, and make as sure as possible that you won't be ripped off, because it seems to happen more often than not.

Thanks for reading.
